Loss Of Consortium
In Texas loss of “consortium” is a term used at law to characterize the effect a personal injury can have on a marriage. The early origins of the term consortium are in British law, where it meant the “right of a husband’s access to his wife.”
Today, if a spouse is injured in an accident, husband or wife, the other spouse loses some of the love, support, affection, companionship and sexual relations that were a part of the marriage before the injury occurred.
Loss of consortium does not apply solely to sexual intercourse; aid and comfort, solace, and moral support are also included.
